Baobab Wellness Paleo Challenge: Day 1–Walking!
Here it is–the beginning of a new, healthier you. Excited? We are (for you!) and want to dive right in with the first activity in our Baobab Wellness Paleo Challenge: walking.
It seems simple, but take inventory of your daily activities and be truthful; do you take the time to really walk anywhere? If you do, great, you’re already ahead of the game (and we’ll give you something more advanced to do for this month). If you find that your idea of walking means getting up to go to the bathroom during TV commercials…honey…we’ve got some work ahead of us!
Your mission for April (and ideally for the rest of your life), is to go outside–YES, outside–and walk for 20 minutes at your usual pace, every day, rain or shine. No need to speed-walk or jog, just your normal walking stride will do. It seems like nothing, but all we’re trying to accomplish right now is getting your body used to basic movements again while soaking in some natural daylight (remember, most of us are Vitamin D deficient!). We have become a pretty sedentary people as opposed to our very active australopithecine ancestors, so this activity will help you reboot.
Walk during your lunch break; walk part of the way to and/or from work (if you live in a pedestrian-friendly town); walk around your block before or after dinner (if the sun is still out) or first thing in the morning–it doesn’t matter, just as long as you’re outside conversing with the sun.
For all you daily walkers, we’re giving you a couple of options: sprinting or stairs. If you’re going to try sprinting, walk 4 minutes and run fast for 1; do that for 20 minutes every day. If you’re choosing to embrace climbing stairs it’s pretty easy–just take the stairs instead of the elevator every day in every instance.
Be sure to keep some notes on your progress and let us know how it’s going. If you have any questions, contact us via email or in the comments. Happy walking!
